Discover Walden: A Unique Learning Adventure

The Walden Educational Enhancement Program is an outdoor based, drop-off program designed for the home-schooled children of the beautiful Cashiers and Highlands areas in Western North Carolina. 

We offer hands-on, creative programming rich in literature, writing, science, geography, and history, meeting each family with warmth and joy.  Our Walden Educational Experience stands out with its unique approach to home education in Western North Carolina. Our method offers a distinctive blend of hands-on, creative programming inspired by Waldorf, Forrest School, and Classical learning methods.

We warmly embrace each family, offering a safe and inclusive environment for all families of K-6 children, Mondays and Tuesdays from 10-2:00 for K-6. 

Our home base is in Cashiers, NC. The outdoor location and indoor weather-backup locations will be provided upon registration. In our K-6 program, we foster a deep connection with the natural world and our community. 

By beginning with education based in local flora and fauna and local history, our students learn to follow their curiosity and ‘rabbit hole’ into areas of nature and biology studies as well as American History. 

Students  are welcomed to a place of respect and encouragement, where they learn to be self-sufficient and are provided the space to flourish. 

The curriculum, pedagogy, and teaching methods are designed to nurture and realize each student's unique potential. The Walden Education Experience offers flexible programming and support to the growing homeschool community in Western North Carolina seeking a holistic education. 

We welcome those parents interested in an education inspired by Waldorf methods and a “whole child" view of human development, or those seeking a more part-time experience to enrich and supplement their other homeschool choices.

Outside of the Walden Experience parents may homeschool their children however they choose and are responsible for the math portions of their education as well as other extracurriculars.
