Amy Quinn has been a well-loved member of the Cashiers and Highlands communities since she arrived in 2021.
Amy homeschooled all three of her children through their early years of education. Her family spent much of their time exploring the wonders of the ocean and maritime forests on the barrier island where they resided in coastal North Carolina. In addition to nature study, she grew to admire the beauty and effectiveness of the classical method of education, which inspired her to start the first Classical Conversations campus in her area. She led the Foundations, Essentials, and Challenge programs over the course of ten years. Her adult children often comment how the classical method better equipped them for higher education in comparison to their peers.
Having a degree in journalism from UNC-Chapel Hill, Amy went on to teach middle and high school writing and English in New Bern, NC at The Epiphany School of Global Studies, founded by author Nicholas Sparks. After her transition to western North Carolina, she taught middle school language arts at the Summit Charter School here in Cashiers. In addition, she has worked as a guide, leading history tours and hiking expeditions on the plateau over the past few summers. Furthermore, she has a profound interest in emotional intelligence and physical wellness as she holds certificates in therapeutic yoga, group fitness, equine therapy, swim coaching, and breathwork.
With a deep respect for the classical method, an ongoing fascination with the natural world, and a keen interest in creating curriculum, Amy is excited to embark on this journey with our families in a nurturing and adventurous way.
